How does FTP permission works in Unix?

Permissions are set with a combination of three numbers - eg, 735. The first number represents the owner of the file (you), the second the group that you belong to, and the third is called 'world' (everyone else).
Each number is calculated as follows:
Read access: +4
Write access: +2
Execute access: +1
So the permission 765 means:
Owner: full permissions
Group: read and write
World: read and execute
